A Prayer A Day- 3/12/2015
Don’t Be UnForgiving!
Today’s Scripture(s) – Luke 11:4a; Matthew 6:12
“And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. …” … “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”
Human nature, human nature says: “I’ll forgive you but I will not forget what you did to me.” Thank our Father God that He is not a man! Many of us recite the “Lord’s Prayer” daily we have committed it to memory and we rattle it off and keep it moving. For many of us it is the only form of prayer that we do daily and we say: “I prayed today”. We say ‘give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us…’ Do we really want the Father to forgive us the way that we forgive each other? (Think on that for just a moment, now ask yourself: What’s my forgiving others like?) (What I am about to share here is a horrific true event: I was compelled to watch a show on yesterday which covered the heinous acts of a young man who killed several people. There was family that had fallen prey to this young man’s horrible crimes. He thought that he had killed the entire family but the daughter survived, at the time of the crimes she was a little girl, at the very end of the show the young lady stated as she testified in court looking at the young man who had stolen the lives of her family from her she said “I forgive you.” This brought tears to my eyes and I whispered “God bless her, bless her Lord”). Many of us would not forgive someone who talked about us and said terrible things about us. Many of us would not forgive someone who cheated on us. Many of us would not forgive someone who we felt hurt us to our core and I looked at this young lady who sat and looked the man who killed her entire family in the eye and she opened her mouth and said “I forgive you.” Many of us commit sinful acts every day known and unknown and we turn to the Lord and ask Him to forgive us, many of us ask forgiveness with sincere hearts, truly sorrowful asking the Lord to help us not to commit those sins again and asking Him to wash us in His blood and this is the promise of God to us 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” and then there are some that ask the Lord to forgive them out of habit and they ask habitually with no real intent on turning away from those sins, (true repentance), and they do not realize that they are fooling themselves and fallen prey to deception. The Lord wants us to have forgiving hearts. Many will not make it into the kingdom because of unforgiveness. We need to make it our business to pray and ask the Lord to remove the stony heart from us and ask Him to give us hearts that are truly loving and forgiving. Here is the best way to have a heart of forgiveness: Luke 6:27-28 “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.” Bless them. Romans 12:14 “Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.” Forgive and let go.
Father I bless you this day. Thank you for waking me up this morning and thank you for keeping watch over me last night as I slumber, as I slept, I thank and praise you Father God for sending your angels to surround me, thank you Father for fighting for me and cutting down the adversary that would try to rise up against me. Thank you Father God for setting a watch over me, Lord you are so great and so good to me and I bless your great name this day! Father I ask that you would forgive me for all unforgiveness that I may have harbored in my heart. Forgive me Father for all unforgiveness known and unknown that I have harbored in my heart, shine your light on any and every dark place within me, bring it all to light Lord, I want it to be made known and removed from my heart Father God. Lord I ask that you would create in me a clean heart, a heart that is loving and kind, a heart that is forgiving, truly forgiving. Create in me Lord a heart that holds no grudge, no malice, no hatred or anything that is not like you. Help me Holy Spirit! Lord I want to love the way that you love, I want to hate sin the way that you hate sin. I don’t want to hold anything within me that gives place to darkness. Shine the light of your countenance on me Lord and show me the things that I need to rout out of my heart out of my life that are a hindrance to me moving forward in you, that would keep me from walking rightly in your kingdom. I want to access all that you have given me. I want possession of all that is mine through you Lord Jesus and I don’t want anything to hinder me from fulfilling my purpose and my destiny in you Lord. Father I thank you. Father I praise you. Father I honor you and give you all glory. Thank you for your great goodness and your great mercy and your faithfulness to me Father. Lord you are so good and so wonderful and I bless you, bless you bless your holy name. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
