A Prayer A Day 6/28/2016 – Cussing and Swearing, Are You?
Today’s Scripture(s) – Colossians 3:8-9 (Read Colossians Chapter 3)
Most of us recognize what filthy communication is. Most of us know what foul language is. Most of us know the right things to say and the wrong things to say. Why don’t we as Christians cuss and swear? This question leads us to: Today’s Scripture(s) – Colossians 3:8-9 “But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.” Now, let’s look at a scripture verse that clearly indicates that cussing and swearing, in other words, foul language is not a good thing. Mark 14:70-71 “And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto. But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.” This is Peter, who walked with the Lord Jesus, and you see in this instance that Peter had not yet been regenerated, for the Holy Ghost had not yet come. In the unregenerated state, that is when the old man is still alive and kicking, filth and foulness comes out. “No one is perfect”, that’s what I hear the voice of many saying right now and I totally agree with you, no one is perfect, but I also know what this scripture verse says and means: Ephesians 4:26 “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:” How many of us get angry and then we curse and swear like Peter did?
